*Health Shots* for the super hero in you.

Instead of caffeine in the morning, if you’re starting to feel under the weather, or if you want a fast way to ingest something good for your body, this Ginger Tumeric Lemon shot is the answer.

It’s so easy to make. Stock up on ginger and tumeric and store them in the fridge (not freezer) for months of healthy shooting.

Energize + Feel Good

You already know how I feel about green smoothies, and forming a daily habit, but did you know I love taking lots of shots?

Health shots, that is!

The GTL my all-time favorite health shot, so here you go.

Ginger Tumeric Lemon

:::::::::::::::::::

Step One: Get out your turmeric nub. I get mine at the big farmer’s market.

Tumeric is not a looker. But in the food world as in the human world, it’s really what’s on the inside that counts.

And, I think my counter needs cleaning… I spy a berry-leaving.

Step Two: Get out your ginger root. This is available at many grocery stores, these days.IMG_3108Step Three: Slice and dice your roots. Proportions shown (about as long as your thumb).

Step Four: Include half of a lemon, freshly squozen. So slice that on up, too.

IMG_3110Step Four: Throw it all in your blender. *** Cover the ingredients with filtered water (about 1/2 to 1 cup).

IMG_3111Step ???: Blend! I pulse for 15 seconds.

{This picture turned out extra crappy, so it’s omitted for the benefit of your eyeballs.}

Step The Last: Drink your shot!!!

It tastes STRONG so just go for it, all in one go.

General Benies:

I feel energized for hours after this Ginger Tumeric Lemon shot, without any cracked-out after-affects like caffeine can have. The combo is said to boost your immune system significantly, too. I avoided one threatened cold earlier this spring through my daily GTL shot, so I believe.

Ginger is good, here’s why:

  • helps clear your sinuses
  • rids you of mucus (one of the five ways your body releases toxins – mucus, tears, sweat, exhale, and going to the bathroom)
  • helps you absorb nutrients in your body
  • keeps you from feeling queasy and helps an upset stomach
  • is an anti-inflammatory for achy joints or post-surgery/post-workout and
  • I heard it’s an aphrodisiac, sooooooo you’ve been warned.

Tumeric is amazing, for these reasons:

  • prevents cancer in a trillion ways: it may block cancer from forming AND progressing, and specifically prevents and is said to help stop colon cancer
  • it also is an anti-inflammatory
  • is a powerful antioxidant – neutralizing free-radicals from unstable compounds we ingest through tap water, imperfectly clean air and other foods, thus further preventing cancer formation
  • relieves arthritis and
  • is dynamite for your liver – and who couldn’t use a liver-health boost from time to time?

Let’s not forget our everyday super-hero: good, old ordinary lemons:

  • have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers {super powers}
  • a weight loss aid (lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser, both necessary for weight loss)
  • promotes immunity and fights infection {our hero!}
  • packed with nutrients: citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene
  • a natural anxiety-relief (recent studies show)

What’s not to love??? Food is medicine, we see once again.

SOME NOTES:

Did you see my fruit bowl by the blender?? You and your family WILL eat more fruits if you have one out and full of fruit. I keep my hemp seed out for smoothies, too, or else I forget to add my plant-based protein.

The best way to stain your hands yellow for days is through turmeric, so beware when handling turmeric slices. Also, blend a cup of water and a soap squeeze immediately after shot-production to prevent a tumeric-colored blender.
